Windows Desktop Update

Internet Explorer 4.0 includes a Windows Desktop Update as an optional component.  This update adds true Web integration to your Windows experience: a Web-enhanced Active Desktop, taskbar, Start menu, and folders.  Please do not install this component if you have a multi-lingual system!

Microsoft VM for Java

The Java Virtual Machine for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 offers one of the fastest implementations and most complete integrations of Java available today. With our Just-In-Time compiler, Java applets run faster than ever before.

Microsoft NetMeeting

Microsoft NetMeeting enables you to make audio and video calls and share data over the Internet or Intranet. Using NetMeeting, two or more people can share applications, transfer files, view and draw on a shared whiteboard, and chat. All of this will work over a standard modem connection to the Internet, as well as over ISDN and on a local area network.

Outlook Express

Outlook Express is a communications program that lets you send and receive e-mail, bulletin board, and news group messages based on Internet standard protocols. Outlook Express gives you the ability to read and compose messages offline to save connection time, and lets you use global address books to find individuals and groups anywhere on the Internet.

Microsoft Chat

Microsoft Chat, formerly called Comic Chat, is a new kind of chat program that combines conventional text-based chat with unconventional graphic features. Microsoft Chat offers countless ways for you to communicate, share ideas, and have fun as you reach out and meet new friends.

Microsoft NetShow

NetShow is a streaming multimedia platform for one-to-many communication over networks that range from low-bandwidth dial-up Internet connections to high-bandwidth switched local area networks. From simple audio to sophisticated interactive Web-based applications, companies use NetShow, and the NetShow client controls included in Internet Explorer, to offer new streaming content for applications such as training, corporate communications, entertainment, and advertising to users all over the world.

Microsoft Interactive Music Control w/ MS Synthesizer

Energize your web pages with the power of an original, flexible soundtrack using the Interactive Music Control. A control that provides playback of multimedia streams (such as video and audio) from local files or Internet servers and adds movies and sound to applications and Web pages.

Microsoft Agent

The Microsoft Agent ActiveX control supports the presentation of animated, interactive characters within the Microsoft Windows interface.  Characters can introduce, guide, entertain, or otherwise enhance Web pages.  Microsoft Agent enables a new form of user interaction that leverages natural aspects of human social communication.

Macromedia Shockwave Director

Shockwave Director is the industry standard for delivering and experiencing quality interactive multimedia, graphics, and streaming audio on the World Wide Web. Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard

The Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard enables you to easily post Web pages and various file types, including HTML, to a World Wide Web or Intranet site. The Web Publishing Wizard supports multiple protocols, e.g. HTTP POST, FTP, and CRS, and can be used with Microsoft products such as Site Server and FrontPage.

Microsoft Script Debugger

Microsoft Script Debugger provides you with a comprehensive debugging environment for testing and correcting errors in Web page scripts written in any ActiveX-enabled scripting language, including Visual Basic for Scripting (VBScript), JScript, and the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (VM).

Data Components for Internet Explorer

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 data binding support merges an HTML template and database data on the client. These are the data source objects and support files for providing access to the database data on the client.

Microsoft Wallet

With the Microsoft Wallet, you can securely store your credit card (in encrypted form) and shipping address information on your own PC. When you shop at your favorite secure web site, you can easily post this information from your Wallet, making shopping on the Internet safe, easy, and convenient.

Supplemental Web Fonts

This add-on pack includes TrueType fonts created especially for use on the Web. These fonts supplement those installed by default with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0.and include Microsoft's Georgia and Trebuchet font families, Monotype's Monotype.com font and Adobe Corporation's Minion Web font.

Internet Explorer Sound Pack

This add-on pack includes additional sounds to enjoy with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0.

Task Scheduler

Provides a friendly user interface for scheduling applications that is the same one on both Windows 95 and Windows NT, with the exception of added security features in Windows NT. The user interface is fully integrated into the operating system, and is accessible from the My Computer icon on the desktop. Users can drag-and-drop programs right into Task Scheduler to quickly add a new task or use the provided ôAdd Scheduled Taskö wizard. You can schedule any script, program, or document to be invoked at any time or any interval, every day to once a year, and on events like system boot, user logon, or system idle. Examples: have your email program start when you log on, back up your hard drive at night, have Internet Explorer run every day at 5, scan your disk for errors when your computer is not in use. This new service replaces the System Agent that was included in the Windows Plus! Pack and also offers a COM programing interface for developers.
